2006-2007 SCHEDULE
Temporary Dream
August 1, 3, & 25, 2006 @ 9pm @ Gallery 164
Nimbus will perform an encore gig with the band, Temporary Dream, and filmmakers / videographers Brian Milbrand, Meg Knowles, Vince Mistretta, and David Gracon. Nimbus performers, Theresa Baker, Beth Elkins, Aaron Piepszny, and Kerry Ann Ring tell their dreams while hanging and swinging from the ceiling. Pop corn will be served! A review of the August 3 show, by Ron Ehmke, may be viewed at www.infringebuffalo.com.
Just Dance
October 13 & 14, 2006 @ 9pm @ Rust Belt Books
Nimbus will appear as a guest with Real Dream Cabaret on the last weekend of their four-week run. Just Dance will explore issues of interpersonal social justice, in a cabaret setting. Performers will include Beth Elkins and Kerry Ann Ring with music by John Weber. Is that fair?
Shadows
October 7 & 27, 2006 @ 7 & 9pm @ Gallery 164
Nimbus will perform throughout the space, interacting with the work of Tony Viscardi, Chair of the Art and Architecture Department at Lehigh University. Mr. Viscardi draws the projected shadows of architectural models and develops them into large, abstract Escher-like cityscapes. Layers of drawings mounted in plexiglass planes will be hung in space by Viscardi, and UB Architecture professors Brad Wales and Frank Fantauzzi. Dancers Beth Elkins, Kerry Ring, and Any Taravella will project shadows onto the drawings, accompanied by a 3-channel video by Charlie O’Geen and an interactive soundscape by K.G. Price.
Windows
January 26, 2007 @ 7pm @ Albright-Knox Art Gallery Sculpture Court
Eight window frames will be suspended in space. Dancers Beth Elkins, Jennifer Golonka, Kerry Ring, and others will tell a story from the perspective of their own personal window on the world. The minimalist setting will be constructed and installed by Brad Wales and the UB student Small Built Works Project. Windows is part of the Friday night Gusto at the Gallery series.
Cell Phone Show
March 29, 30, 31 & April 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 & 14, 2007 @ Gallery 164
The Cell Phone Show will explore social implications and nuances of our cell phone culture. Interactive segments will invite the audience to call in dance requests. Against a backdrop of the uncertainty of government surveillance and clandestine communiques, Beth Elkins, Jennifer Golonka, and Kerry Ann Ring will collaborate on choreography, with Theresa Baker playing the role of Big Brother/Marlene Dietrich. Architect/designer Brad Wales will flesh-out the physical reality of cell towers with new set pieces and an interactive 3-channel video backdrop with Brian Milbrand. Buffalo music stalwart David Kane will compose and perform a hauntingly kitschy original score. Turn your ringers on at the door!
Triple Flicker Dances
May 2007 @ Gallery 164
The Triple Flicker Dances are Cabaret-style performances featuring the work of various local, national, and international videographers. The video works will be curated by Brian Milbrand specifically for Gallery 164’s 3-channel video performance space.
Gallery 164 is located at 164 Allen Street, Buffalo, New York 14201 716-883-7539
Rust Belt Books is located at 202 Allen Street, Buffalo, New York 14201 716-885-9535
Nimbus Dance is committed to presenting site-specific performance art dealing with current subject matter. Our performances are often cabaret-style, with the dancers directly addressing the audience – and even serving them food. We use text and spoken word overlays as well as video and film projections as backdrops. Works are created through a collaborative choreography and scripting process.
